Governor Abbott Appoints Three To Texas Crime Stoppers Council
Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Joe Martino, Greg New and Steve Squier to the Texas Crime Stoppers Council for terms set to expire on September 1, 2020. The council was created to advise the Governor on issues concerning crime stoppers programs in Texas, and is statutorily required to certify local crime stopper programs in Texas in order for them to receive repayments of rewards or payments of probation fees established by the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Joe Martino of Marshall works in office services for the McKool Smith Law Firm. Previously, he has served as assistant Head of School at Trinity Episcopal School and as an assistant principal at Marshall High School (MHS). He has served with Texas Crime Stoppers (TCS) as a certified trainer and founder of local campus programs, involving himself with TCS since 1989. Additionally, he supports the MHS athletics program as an announcer and video technician at various sporting events. Martino received a Bachelor of Science in education and a Master of Education from Stephen F. Austin State University.\
Greg New of Waxahachie is a peace officer for the City of Grand Prairie. He is a member of the Texas Municipal Police Association and Chisholm Trail Crime Prevention Association, and is a former vice president of the Grand Prairie Police Association. He is also a former president of the Midlothian Youth Baseball Association. New graduated from the Kissimmee Florida Police Academy and the North Central Council of Government Police Academy and received his Master Peace Officer Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
Steve Squier of Cleveland is a Deputy Sheriff with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO). He is a member of the Texas Municipal Peace Officers Association and Montgomery County Law Enforcement Association. He serves as coordinator of the Montgomery County Crime Stoppers program, MCSO Citizen Police Academy and the MCSO Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association. He also serves on the Texas Administrative Code Review Board. Squier attended Sam Houston State University and graduated from the Lone Star Community College Police Academy in Houston.
