Sanctity Of Human Life Day 2019

January 22, 2019 | Austin, Texas | Proclamation

The Lone Star State stands as a beacon of hope and opportunity for people no matter their station in life.  That includes the most vulnerable Texans of all: the unborn.

In recent years, Texas has made great strides in protecting the sanctity and dignity of human life.  Abortion is outlawed after 20 weeks, and barbaric partial-birth and dismemberment abortion procedures have been banned entirely.  Before every abortion, sonograms are required so that women can learn more about their babies whose lives are at stake.  Texas also supports our courageous mothers by providing life-affirming women’s health services, assisting them as they raise their children, and supporting them if they choose praiseworthy alternatives to abortion such as adoption.  New laws have strengthened the reporting requirements for complications resulting from abortions and for abortions performed on minors.  In addition, no Texan will be forced to pay for health insurance that covers elective abortions.

On this day, I encourage all Texans to celebrate the precious gift of life.  Together, and by God’s grace, we will continue to build a legacy of life that cherishes and protects the humanity and dignity of all Texans – born and unborn.

Therefore, I, Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim January 22, 2019, to be

Sanctity of Human Life Day
