Governor Abbott Names Presiding Officer And Appoints Three To Texas State Board Of Examiners Of Marr

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Kenneth Bateman, Rachel Logue and Evelyn Husband Thompson to the Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage and Family Therapists for a term set to expire on February 1, 2021. The Governor additionally named Jennifer Smothermon as presiding officer. The board shall determine the qualifications and fitness of a license applicant under this chapter and adopt a code of professional ethics for license holders.

Kenneth Bateman, Ed.D. of Richardson is a private practice marriage and family therapist and professional counselor at New Directions Counseling and Education Center. He served as a professor for over 20 years, most recently at Amberton University. Dr. Bateman is a member of the American Counseling Association, Texas Counseling Association, American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and a Clinical Fellow of the Texas Marriage and Family Therapist Association. Dr. Bateman received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois and Doctor of Education in Counseling from Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Rachel Logue of The Hills is a real estate agent for Century 21 Hellmann Stribling & Association. She is a member of the National Association of Realtors, Austin Board of Realtors, Williamson Country Board of Realtors, Fine Homes and Estates and a Charter Member for the Seton Williamson Women’s Development Board. She previously served on the Williamson County Board of Realtors Executive Board and the Williamson Association of Realtors Board of Directors. Logue received the Top Producer Award in 2008, the Accredited Buyers Representative Designation, and the Graduate of Real Estate Institute Designation.

Evelyn Husband Thompson of Houston is an author and speaker. She speaks throughout the nation telling the story of God’s faithfulness through the tragic loss of her husband, Rick Husband, on the space shuttle Columbia. She is a board member of the E.A. Smith YMCA, board member for Fathers in the Field Ministry which serves as a ministry for fatherless boys, and actively involved with Sagemont Church Vision Team. Additionally, she participates in Space Shuttle Columbia dedications and memorials throughout the country. Thompson received a Bachelor of Arts in Telecommunications from Texas Tech University.

Jennifer Smothermon of Abilene is the director of development and therapist for the Ministry of Counseling and Enrichment. She is a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapist, Texas Association of Marriage and Family Therapist, American Association of Christian Counselors, Abilene Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, and Big Country Counseling Association. Smothermon received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Bible and a Masters of Arts in Family Psychology from Hardin-Simmons University.
