Governor Abbott Appoints Cooper To Lower Colorado River Authority Board Of Directors
Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Steve Cooper of El Campo to the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) Board of Directors for a term to expire on February 1, 2017. The LCRA delivers electricity, manages the water supply and environment, provides public recreation areas and supports the community and economic development of the lower Colorado River basin.
Steve Cooper is owner and principal of Emerald Ag Investments and is the former 28-year president and owner of La Tierra de Esmeralda/Emerald Sod Farms, specializing in turf grass, sod and services. He currently serves as vice chairman of the El Campo Memorial Hospital Board of Directors and as an advisor to the El Campo Youth Memorial Park for Little League. He formerly served as chairman of the Leadership Advisory Board of Wharton County AgriLife for 10 years. He is a recipient of the Texas A&M University Distinguished Alumnus award and is a member of the Department of Agriculture Economics’ Tyrus R. Timm Honor Registry and the Association of Former Students Leadership Council. He is also a member of the Texas A&M University System Chancellor’s Century Council. Cooper received a Bachelor of Science in agricultural economics from Texas A&M University.
