Governor Abbott Appoints Margo To Cancer Prevention And Research Institute Of Texas Oversight Commit

Governor Greg Abbott today appointed Donald R. "Dee" Margo of El Paso to the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) Oversight Committee for a term to expire on January 31, 2021.

Donald R. "Dee" Margo is the owner of Margo Partners, Inc. Prior to that, Margo worked at the John D. Williams Company for more than 30 years. He worked his way up through the ranks to become the chairman and CEO of the company before the business later sold in 2012 to HUB International, one of the largest brokerage firms in the world. Margo was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2010 and served on the Appropriations Committee and the Land and Resource Management Committee. He has been a strong leader in growing and diversifying El Paso's economy as an active member of the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce, the El Paso Regional Economic Development Corporation, and the Paso Del Norte Group. Margo also helped found the Border Fund, a non-profit foundation providing more than $26 million in charitable grants to local volunteer groups; and Operation Noel, which provides more than 20,000 coats for needy El Paso children, from toddlers to teenagers, each Christmas. As a current member of the World Presidents Organization and past member of the Young Presidents Organization, Margo has been honored as an exemplary role model in business ethics. Margo attended Vanderbilt University on a football scholarship where he received a bachelor's degree in history and economics.
