More Powerful Texas
Texas is the energy capital of the world. As people and businesses continue to flock to the state, Texas must unleash the full capability of our water and energy supply.
Under Governor Greg Abbott’s leadership, Texas leads in U.S. energy production:
- #1 U.S. producer of both crude oil and natural gas
- #1 in electric power generation in the nation, with more than California and New York combined
- #1 in wind-powered generation and in utility-scale solar capacity
- Increased power by 35% in since 2021
Governor Abbott has made Texas-sized investments to strengthen the state’s critical infrastructure and keep the Texas economy booming, including:
- Invested a record $148 billion for Texas’ transportation infrastructure
- Funded over $13 billion in low or no-interest loans for cities and water supply corporations to invest in water infrastructure through the State Water Infrastructure for Texas (SWIFT)
- Created the Texas Water Fund to support the development of seven million acre-feet of new water supplies in the next 10 years with a $1 billion investment
- Dedicated an additional $1 billion to maintain existing and build new water infrastructure
- Directed the Public Utility Commission of Texas to establish advanced nuclear energy capabilities
- Signed a law in the 88th Legislative Session to add 10,000 megawatts of power to the grid
Water
Texas must invest in new, innovative water projects to tap into new water supplies and repair existing pipelines to save billions of gallons of water each year. That’s why Governor Abbott declared a generational investment in water as an emergency item this legislative session. To put Texas on a path to have plenty of water for the next 50 years, Governor Abbott will work with the Texas Legislature to:
- Make the one-time largest investment in water in Texas history, as well as dedicate $1 billion a year for 10 years to tap into new water supplies and repair existing pipes
- Invest in new water supply strategies that develop resources like desalination and move water from areas of abundance to areas of need
- Create a long-term dedicated funding stream to invest in critical water infrastructure for future generations
Energy
Leading the nation in energy production since 1901, Texas continues to enhance its all-of-the-above energy approach to ensure every Texan has access to reliable, dispatchable power.
To increase dispatchable capabilities and fortify our state grid, Governor Abbott will continue to work with the Texas Legislature to:
- Expand the Texas Energy Fund to $10 billion to build more dispatchable natural gas plants
- Build an advanced nuclear industry, making Texas the epicenter of the nuclear energy supply chain
- Add more capacity to the Texas power grid
