First Lady Cecilia Abbott Addresses Citizen Schools Of Texas Luncheon
First Lady Cecilia Abbott today addressed the Citizen Schools Texas annual luncheon and celebration of community partners. Citizen Schools Texas is a nonprofit that partners with Houston public schools and local businesses to offer apprenticeships to middle school students. The apprenticeships are taught by the business employees and volunteers, and Citizen Schools Texas estimates that their volunteers will contribute over 1,200 hours and serve over 400 middle school students this semester.
“I believe that every child in Texas deserves the opportunity to succeed, and a good education is the ladder we give our children to help them reach their dreams,” the First Lady said. “Citizen Schools and their numerous community partners and volunteers are exposing these middle school students to the many opportunities that are available for them – opportunities they didn’t even know existed. Houston is fortunate to have these dedicated, charitable Texans helping make the dream of a college education and a successful career a possibility for many children here in Houston.”
