AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott today hosted a reception honoring 2015 National Teacher of the Year Shanna Peeples at the Texas Governor’s Mansion in Austin, TX. The event comes after Peeples, a high school English teacher at Palo Duro High School in Amarillo, was named the 2015 National Teacher of the Year by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) in April 2015.

"The most important thing for the future of the state of Texas is education," said Governor Abbott. "Teaching is a calling, especially for those who do it extremely well like Shanna. This is something that comes as much from the heart as it does the mind. It is with deep gratitude as Governor that I have the honor to recognize Shanna for her hard work and accomplishments, and I ask that she and all of Texas' teachers continue to elevate Texas classrooms to be the best in the nation."
