Governor Abbott On Concealed Handgun Licenses Reciprocity With The State Of Ohio
TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME:
WHEREAS, Texas Government Code Section 411.173 directs that the governor shall negotiate an agreement with any other state that provides for the issuance of a license to carry a concealed handgun under which a license issued by the other state is recognized in this state, or shall issue a proclamation that a license issued by the other state is recognized in this state, if the Attomey General of the State of Texas determines that a background check ofeach applicant for a license issued by that state is conducted by stateor local authorities or an agent of the state or local authorities before the license is issued to determine the applicant's eligibility to possess a firearm under federal law; and
WHEREAS, the Attorney General of the State of Texas has determined that a background check of each applicant for a license issued by the State of Ohio on or after March 23, 2015, is conducted by state or local authorities or an agent of the state or local authorities before the license is issued to determine the applicant's eligibility to possess a firearm under federal law, pursuant to Ohio Revised Code Section2923.l25; and
WHEREAS, the State of Texas is therefore authorized to recognize the validity of Ohio concealed handgun licenses issued on or after March 23, 2015;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Greg Abbott, Govemor of Texas, do hereby proclaim that the State of Texas shall recognize valid concealed handgun licenses issued by the State of Ohio on or after March 23, 2015, as long as Ohio licensees comply with all laws, rules, and regulations of the State of Texas governing the use and carrying of concealed handguns.
