Governor Abbott Appoints Ruggero Hughs To Texas Workforce Commission
Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Ruth Ruggero Hughs of Austin to the Texas Workforce Commission for a term set to expire on February 1, 2021.
Ruth Ruggero Hughs serves in the private practice of law. She is also the owner and managing partner of an award-winning film production company. Prior to her current work, Hughs served as the Director of Defense Litigation in the Texas Attorney General’s Office. In that capacity, she was responsible for managing six of the 11 civil litigation divisions: Financial Litigation, General Litigation, Law Enforcement Defense, Taxation, Tort Litigation, and Transportation. In addition to managing the lawyers who serve those divisions, Hughs also helped with the overall management of the other five civil litigation divisions. Before managing civil defense divisions, Hughs was responsible for defending state agencies and employees in civil rights and employment litigation in state and federal courts, as well as advising employers on employment matters. She has been twice recognized as a Rising Star in the legal community by Texas Monthly. Hughs is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and Rutgers School of Law. She is a native of Argentina and Corpus Christi and currently resides in Austin.
