Governor Abbott Reappoints Niermann to Texas Commission on Environmental Quality

Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Jon Niermann to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for a term set to expire on August 31, 2027. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality protects the state's public health and natural resources consistent with sustainable economic development. 

Jon Niermann of Austin was first appointed to TCEQ in September 2015, and has served as Chairman since September 2018. Previously, he served as chief of the Environmental Protection Division in the Texas Attorney General’s Office, and as an attorney at Baker Botts, L.L.P., where he was recognized with the Judge Thomas Gibbs Gee Award for Outstanding Pro Bono Service and the Judge Suzanne Covington Pro Bono Service Award. He is a member of the American College of Environmental Lawyers, Western States Water Council, and the Good Neighbor Environmental Board. Additionally, he represents Texas on the Environmental Council of States. Niermann received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Master of Business Administration and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Oregon.
