Governor Abbott Proclaims April 2024 As Child Abuse Prevention Month

April 1, 2024 | Austin, Texas | Proclamation

All children deserve stable, loving homes.  Each one represents our rich heritage and the best hope for our future, and it is our responsibility to protect them from harm.

Unfortunately, in every community, child abuse and neglect negatively impact child development, family stability, and health.  Child maltreatment includes physical abuse, neglect, sexual assault, and emotional abuse.  To protect our children and help them unlock their full potential, we must recognize the signs of abuse.

It is incumbent upon all Texans to fight against these despicable acts.  To that end, advocacy groups, nonprofit organizations, social workers, and government entities throughout our state work tirelessly to help children and families through education and awareness.  Their compassion and commitment promote physical, intellectual, and emotional well-being.

Each year, the month of April is dedicated to the safety and well-being of children throughout our great state and to shedding light on child abuse.  By standing with the social workers, counselors, health care professionals, educators, and citizens who remain vigilant in safeguarding young Texans, we send a strong message that every child deserves a successful, fulfilling future.

At this time, I encourage all Texans to learn the signs of child abuse and to recognize the many organizations working to end child abuse once and for all.

Therefore, I, Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim April 2024 to be Child Abuse Awareness Month in Texas and urge all Texans to observe the occasion with appropriate ceremonies and activities.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto affixed my signature this the 6th day of March, 2024.

Greg Abbott

Governor of Texas
