Governor Abbott Appoints Seven To Nueces River Authority Board Of Directors
Governor Abbott has appointed Jane Bell, Jason Peeler, Anita Shackelford and reappointed Dane Bruun, Dan S. Leyendecker, Dina Ramirez, and David Purser for terms set to expire on February 1, 2025 to the Nueces River Authority Board of Directors. The authority shall administer the control, employment, and conservation of the waters of the Nueces River Basin, forestation and reforestation, groundwater, storm water floodwater, water quality control, solid waste, and parks and recreational facilities.
Jane Bell of Corpus Christi formerly served as the area director for the American Diabetes Association in Corpus Christi. She is a member of the Texas Association of School Boards, and is currently a Corpus Christi ISD Trustee serving as board vice-president and legislative chair. In addition, she is secretary of the Nueces County Coastal Parks Commission, member of Charity League of Corpus Christi, and a board member of Corpus Christi Education Foundation and Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra. Bell received a Bachelor of Journalism from The University of Texas at Austin.
Jason Peeler of Floresville is a cattle rancher and co-owner of Prairie Harbor, LLC. He is currently chairman-elect of the Texas Cattle Feeders Association and a board member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers and National Cattlemen's Beef Association. In addition, he is a member of the Texas Alliance of Child and Family Services, and previously served as the governor’s appointee to the Evergreen Underground Water Conservation District. Peeler received a Bachelor of Science in agricultural economics from Texas A&M University.
Anita Shackelford of Leakey is retired after working for the United States Department of Agriculture for 30 years. She owns a cow calf operation and a tree spraying business. She is a member of Southwest Texas Junior College, past client representative for Community Health Development Inc., and a member of the Hondo National Bank Advisory Board, Real County Museum committee, and the Community & Technical College Leadership Council. Shackelford attended The University of Texas at Austin.
Dane Bruun of Corpus Christi is an attorney and partner at Welder Leshin LLP. He is a member of the Corpus Christi Bar Association, Propeller Club of the United States, and the Southwestern Admiralty Law Institute, and a Proctor Member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Foster Angels of South Texas and as a Committee Member for Ducks Unlimited – Corpus Christi. Bruun received a Bachelor of Arts in history from The University of Texas at Austin and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Houston Law Center.
Dan S. Leyendecker of Corpus Christi is a civil engineer and president of LNV, Inc. He is a member of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, American Water Works Association, and the American Society of Civil Engineers. He is the secretary of the Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority Board of Directors and a trustee of the American Council of Engineering Companies Retirement Trust. In addition, he is a volunteer with the Corpus Christi Mustangs. Leyendecker received a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Texas A&M University.
Dina Ramirez of Karnes City is a board certified speech language pathologist and office manager for Roberto Ramirez, M.D. She is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Ramirez received a Bachelor of Arts from Pan American University and a Master of Science in communications from Texas Christian University.
David Purser is a high school teacher in Karnes City Independent School District. He is a current member of the Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital Board of Directors. Purser received a Bachelor of Science in animal sciences and a Masters of Science in animal science from Texas A&M University.
