Governor Abbott Appoints Four To Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Arcilia Acosta to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for a term set to expire August 31, 2019. The Governor additionally reappointed Javaid Anwar and appointed Ricky Raven and Stuart W. Stedman to the Board for terms set to expire August 31, 2021. The Board provides leadership and coordination for the Texas higher education system.
Arcilia Acosta of Dallas is president and CEO of CARCON Industries and Construction and is founder and CEO of STL Engineers. She currently serves on the board of directors of Energy Future Holdings Corporation, parent company of TXU Energy, Oncor Services and Luminant Power, and is also a board director of Legacy Texas Financial Group, a bank holding company. She is a board member of the Dallas Citizens Council and former chairman of the Texas Association of Mexican American Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, she is a member of the National Women’s Energy Network and a former member of the National Alumni Board for Texas Tech University. Acosta received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas Tech University and board director certification from Southern Methodist University Southwest School of Banking, and is a graduate of the Harvard University Business School Corporate Governance Program.
Javaid Anwar of Midland is owner and president of Midland Energy, Inc., Petroplex Energy, Inc. and Western T. Corporation. He is a lifetime member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and member of the George W. Bush Childhood Home Board of Directors and Texas Lt. Governor’s Energy Council. Last year, he received the Golden Hammer Award from Midland Habitat for Humanity, and in 2014, he received the Philanthropist of the Year Award from the Permian Basin Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Businessman of the Year Award from the South Asian Chamber of Commerce in Houston and humanitarian awards from the Pakistan Citizens Foundation and the Human Development Foundation. Anwar received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wyoming.
Rickey Raven of Sugar Land is partner at Reed Smith. He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, State Commission on Judicial Conduct, Texas Association of Defense Counsel, State Bar of Texas International Association of Defense Counsel, United States Supreme Court Bar, Houston Bar Association, New York State Bar Association and the Arkansas Bar Association. He sits on the boards of the Houston Community College Foundation, University of Houston Alumni Association, and the Yellowstone Academy. Additionally, he is a fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and the Houston Bar Foundation and member of University of Houston Foundation Board of Trustees, Houston Police Officers' Civil Service Commission and the Houston Golf Association. Raven received a Bachelor of Science and Juris Doctor from the University of Houston.
Stuart W. Stedman of Houston is president of Stedman West Interest, Inc. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute Advisory Board and a board member of the Methodist Hospital Research Institute. Additionally, he is vice chairman of the Liberal Arts Advisory Council and member of the Development Board and Blanton Museum National Leadership Board at the University of Texas at Austin. Stedman received a Bachelor of Arts, Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
