Governor Abbott Appoints Five To Council On Cardiovascular Disease And Stroke
Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Kyle Sheets to the Texas Council on Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) and Stroke for a term set to expire February 1, 2017. Governor Abbott also appointed Sherron Meeks, Shilpa Shamapant and Marcie Gonzalez Wilson for a term set to expire on February 1, 2021 and reappointed Melbert “Bob” Hillert, Jr. for a term to expire February 1, 2021.
Kyle Sheets, MD of Ovalo is a Board Certified Family Practice Physician, president and CEO of Concord Medical Group, medical director of the Medical Clinic of Muleshoe and emergency room physician of the Muleshoe Area Medical Center. He is a member of the Texas Medical Association, Texas Academy of Family Physicians, American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Association. He is chairman and founder of Physicians Aiding Physicians Abroad and member of the Muleshoe Heritage Foundation. Sheets received a Bachelor of Science from Abilene Christian University, a medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and completed his residency at Via Christi Health in Wichita, Kansas.
Sherron Meeks of Midland is a registered nurse and manages the Primary Stroke Center at Midland Memorial Hospital, where she serves as stroke coordinator and critical care unit education coordinator. She is as a member of the Texas Department of State Health Services Regional Advisory Council, and co-chairs Texas Million Hearts, an initiative by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Meeks has also chaired the Texas Partnership for Reduction of CVD and Stroke. Meeks received a Bachelor of Science in nursing from UT Arlington, a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Public Administration from The University of Texas of the Permian Basin.
Shilpa Shamapant of Austin is a speech therapist, and co-founder and president of Austin Speech Labs. She is a member of the Texas Partnership for Reduction of CVD and Stroke, American Heart Association, American Speech Hearing Association, Texas Speech Hearing Association and Texas Neurology Association. Shamapant received a Bachelor of Science from Nagarjuna University in Vijayawada, India, a Master of Engineering from Oregon Graduate Institute and a Master of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders from The University of Texas at Austin.
Marcie Gonzalez Wilson of Lakeway is a registered nurse and the CVD and Stroke Community Outreach Program coordinator for the Seton Healthcare Network. She is a member of the Texas Nurses Association, American Association of Neuroscience Nurses and the National Forum for Latino Healthcare Executives, and a member and past president of the Austin & Central Texas Hispanic Nurses Association. She is also chair of the American Heart Association SouthWest Affiliate Health Equity Committee and past chair of the Texas Department of State Health Services Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke Partnership. Wilson received a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of St. Thomas.
Melbert “Bob” Hillert, Jr., MD of Dallas is a cardiologist in the Congestive Heart Failure Clinic at Doctor’s Hospital at White Rock Lake in Dallas. He is a member and past president of the American Heart Association Texas affiliate and a member of the Texas Medical Association. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American College of Cardiology, National Lipid Association and the American Heart Association. He is a former General Medical officer in the United States Army. Hillert received a Bachelor of Science from Texas Christian University and received a doctorate and completed his residency and fellowship at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.
