Governor Abbott Reappoints Gonzalez To Risk Management Board

Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Tommy Gonzalez to the Risk Management Board for a term set to expire on February 1, 2023. The State Office of Risk Management administers insurance services obtained by state agencies, including the self-insured government employees workers’ compensation insurance program and the state risk management programs.

Tommy Gonzalez of El Paso is the city manager for the City of El Paso. He is chairman of the board for the Quality Texas Foundation Board and a former member of the Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce, Volunteer Services Board, Lubbock United Neighborhood Association Board, and the 4th Corp Steering Committee. He is a member of the United States Army and a board member of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition and Communities of Excellence 2026. He was nationally recognized recently by being awarded the 2019 Baldrige Foundation Leadership Excellence Award in the Government sector by the Malcom Baldrige Foundation in Washington, D.C. The award names role-model leaders in their field. He is a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt from the University of Texas at Austin. Gonzalez received a Bachelor of Science from Eastern New Mexico University and a Master of Public Administration from Texas Tech University. He received the Eastern New Mexico University's Outstanding Alumni Award and the Texas Tech Distinguished Alumni Award. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant Colonel after serving for 22 years.
