Governor Abbott Proclaims May 8-12, 2017 to be Teacher Appreciation Week

May 11, 2017 | Austin, Texas | Proclamation

As the next generation of leaders, children are our brightest hope for the future, and ensuring they receive a quality, well-rounded education should be one of Texas’ top priorities.  Educators inspire our children and teach them that their opportunities are limitless if they dream, dare and do.

Teachers’ significant contributions are reflected in the achievements of their students as they conquer challenges, learn new skills and pave the way for a lifetime of success.  In each student, teachers establish their legacies of excellence and make a profound investment in the future of the Lone Star State.

Each year, state and national organizations designate a week in May to recognize the innumerable contributions teachers make to our daily lives.

At this time, I encourage all Texans to join me in saluting and showing appreciation to teachers, who play such an active role in shaping the Texas of tomorrow.

Therefore, I, Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim May 8–12, 2017, to be Teacher Appreciation Week.
