Governor Abbott Proclaims January Human Trafficking Prevention Month
Governor Abbott today proclaimed January 2020 as Human Trafficking Prevention Month in Texas. In addition to issuing this proclamation, Governor Abbott encouraged all Texans to learn more about the risks and indicators of human trafficking and to do their part to help end these horrific crimes.
"The Lone Star State is adamant in its fight against the inhumane practice of human trafficking," said Governor Abbott. "Texas stands in solidarity with the survivors of this heinous crime, and we are grateful to law enforcement, the Child Sex Trafficking Team, prosecutors and the countless others who have stepped up to keep our communities safe. There is still much work to do, but we will not rest until this inhumanity is eradicated once and for all."
The Governor's Child Sex Trafficking Team (CSTT) is working to build sustainable capacity, enhance expertise, promote policies, and create new and leverage existing collaborations to end these crimes and help its young victims. In the past three months, CSTT has awarded over $26 million to programs that prevent child exploitation, identify and serve victims, and investigate and prosecute exploiters.
In honor of Human Trafficking Awareness Day, the Governor's Mansion will be lit blue on Saturday, January 11th.
