Governor Abbott Proclaims February 2025 As Black History Month In Texas
In a state that prides itself on its rich history and cultural fusion, we know that people from all walks of life have a role to play in the larger story of Texas. African Americans, in particular, have made important contributions to Texas history, and we recognize the impact they continue to make in the Lone Star State and beyond.
From trailblazing figures such as Barbara Jordan and Juanita Craft to military heroes like Richard Overton and Doris “Dorie” Miller to innovative artists on the most prominent stage, many talented African Americans have helped make our state what it is.
Each year, the month of February is set aside in order to recognize the achievements of African Americans past and present. I encourage Texans of all backgrounds to learn about African American history while looking forward to a better, brighter future for all who call this state home. At this time, may we all take pride in our rich tapestry of cultures and strengthen the bonds that unite us as one indivisible nation.
Therefore, I, Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim February 2025 to be
Black History Month
in Texas and urge all Texans to observe the occasion with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto affixed my signature this the 1st day of February, 2025.
Governor of Texas
