Governor Abbott Names Chair And Appoints Cardenas And Cobos To Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation Board Of Directors

Governor Abbott appointed Valerie Vargas Cardenas and Lori Cobos to the Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation Board of Directors for terms set to expire on February 1, 2019 and February 1, 2023, respectively. Additionally, the Governor named William H. “Bill” Dietz, Jr. as chair. The board oversees the provision of affordable housing for low income Texans.

Valerie Vargas Cardenas of San Juan is the executive vice president of Mortgage Banking operations for Lone Star National Bank in McAllen. She currently serves as a Planning and Zoning Commissioner for the City of San Juan and is most recently an executive board member of Affordable Homes South Texas, Inc. She has also served as a committee member of United Way and as president of the Pharr Chamber of Commerce, American Diabetes Association-RGV and the Palmer Drug Abuse Program. Additionally, she is an alumnus of Leadership Texas, McAllen and Pharr. Cardenas received a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing from St. Edward’s University.

Lori Cobos of Austin is an attorney in private practice, is the principal owner of Cobos Law Firm, where she specializes in representing and counseling clients on legal, regulatory, public policy, legislative, and business development matters in the Texas energy industry. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Hispanic Bar Association of Austin, and the Gulf Coast Power Association, chair of the Public Utility Law Section of the State Bar of Texas, and a former board member of the Sul Ross State University Alumni Board. Cobos received a Bachelor of Arts in business administration, with magna cum laude honors, a Master of Arts in public administration from Sul Ross State University, and a Juris Doctor degree from Texas Tech University School of Law.

William H. “Bill” Dietz, Jr. of Waco is a financial advisor and president of Dietz Financial Services, LLC. He is a member of the Financial Services Institute, City of Waco Zoning Board of Adjustments, and the Rotary Club of Waco. Additionally, he is former president of the Heart of Texas Estate Planning Council, vice-chairman of Waco Civic Theatre, and an assistant scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 308 in Waco. Dietz received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Baylor University. He was first appointed to the board in 2009, is currently vice-chair of the board and chair of the Audit Committee.
