Governor Abbott Delivers Remarks At Japan-America Society Of Houston Gala And Award Ceremony
Governor Greg Abbott today delivered remarks at the 51st Annual Japan-America Society of Houston (JASH) Gala and Award Ceremony in Houston, Texas. Governor Abbott was also presented with the J. Thomas Schieffer Leadership Award, which honors distinguished leaders for contributions to the strengthening of the Japan-America alliance. This event follows Governor Abbott's seven day Economic Development Mission to Japan, where he met with CEO’s, dignitaries, and other business leaders to strengthen the strong economic and cultural ties between Texas and Japan.
"The economic and cultural bond between Japan and Texas grows stronger every day," said Governor Abbott. "During my recent business development trip to Japan, we made tremendous strides to bring more investment to Texas, increase trade between our two regions, and foster greater cultural understanding. The Lone Star State's successful partnership with Japan would not be possible without organizations like JASH, and I thank them for helping build a strong foundation to bring our two regions closer together."
Founded in 1968 as the first Japan-America Society in Texas, JASH is dedicated to promoting and strengthening the bond between Japan and Texas through cultural events, business lectures, Japanese language classes, and more. 2019 marks the 51st anniversary of JASH, as well as the 165th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and Japan.
