Governor Abbott Appoints Three To Texas Diabetes Council
Governor Greg Abbott appointed Stephen Ponder, M.D. and Christine Wicke, Phram.D. and reappointed Jason Ryan to the Texas Diabetes Council for a term set to expire on February 1, 2025. The council addresses issues affecting people with diabetes in Texas and advises the Texas Legislature on legislation that is needed to develop and maintain a statewide system of quality education services to all people with diabetes and health professionals who offer diabetes treatment and education.
Stephen Ponder, M.D. of Belton is a pediatric endocrinologist with Baylor Scott & White Healthcare. He is a member of the American Diabetes Association, American Association of Diabetes Educators, American Academy of Pediatrics, Pediatric Endocrine Society American Medical Association, and the Endocrine Society. He is the camp medical director at the Texas Lions Camp for Children with Diabetes and a member of the Temple Breakfast Lions Club. Ponder received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Texas A&M University and a Doctor of Medicine from The University of Texas Medical Branch.
Christine Wicke, Pharm.D. of McKinney is a clinical pharmacy specialist in ambulatory care with Central Texas Veterans Health Care System. She is an active member of the Texas Society of Health System Pharmacists, American Association of Diabetes Educators, and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. Wicke received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from The University of Texas at San Antonio and a Doctor of Pharmacy from The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy.
Jason Ryan of Houston serves as general counsel for CenterPoint Energy. He is a board member for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, a trustee to the Houston Bar Foundation, and a member of the American Gas Association and the State Bar of Texas. Ryan received a Bachelor of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin and a Juris Doctor degree from The University of Texas School of Law.
