Governor Abbott Appoints Seven To Texas Medical Board District One Review Committee

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Antoinette “Toni” Jackson and Sheela Lahoti, M.D. to the Texas Medical Board District One Review Committee for terms set to expire on January 15, 2022. Additionally, he appointed Aundrea Young and reappointed David Davila, D.O. and Courtney Townsend, M.D. for terms set to expire on January 15, 2024 and appointed Imran Dar, M.D. and Kimberly Phillips for terms set to expire on January 15, 2026.

Antoinette “Toni” Jackson of Houston is an attorney and Principal for the Banks Law Firm. She is a member of the Texas Affiliation of Affordable Housing Providers, Urban Land Institute, Texas Southern University Foundation, and Houston Habitat for Humanity. Jackson received a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Virginia and a Juris Doctor degree from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University.

Sheela Lahoti, M.D. of Houston is the Associate Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs at the McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where she also serves as a Professor of pediatrics. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Lahoti received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Miami and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Miami School of Medicine.

Aundrea Young of Houston is the owner and President of Competitive Choice, Inc. Young received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from Texas Southern University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Houston.

David Davila, D.O. of Cypress is a cosmetic surgeon at Houston Cosmetic Surgery Center. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, Texas Osteopathic Medical Association, American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons, and the Harris County Medical Society. Davila received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Baylor University and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of North Texas Health Science Center.

Courtney Townsend, M.D. of Galveston is a surgeon and is the Robertson-Poth Distinguished Chair in General Surgery professor at The University of Texas Medical Branch – School of Medicine. He is a member of the Galveston County Medical Society, American Surgical Association, American College of Surgeons, and Texas Surgical Society. Townsend received a Bachelor of Arts in History and English from The University of Texas at Austin and a Doctor of Medicine from The University of Texas Medical Branch.

Imran Dar, M.D. of Houston is an Assistant Professor and Interventional Cardiologist at UT Health – Center for Advanced Cardiology. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. Dar received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from West Virginia University and a Doctor of Medicine from the West Virginia School of Medicine.

Kimberly Phillips of Houston is the General Counsel for Global Litigation at Shell Oil Company. She is a member of the National Bar Association, Houston Bar Association, State Bar of Texas, and the Institute for Energy Law and a former director and alumni for the Texas Lyceum Association. Phillips received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from Central Missouri State University and a Juris Doctor degree from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University.
