Governor Abbott Appoints Marquez And Names Lomax As Chair Of Commercial Oyster Mariculture Advisory Board

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Mario Marquez to the Commercial Oyster Mariculture Advisory Board for a term set to expire on February 1, 2028. Additionally, the Governor has appointed Bradley “Brad” Lomax as chair for a term set to expire in one year. The Board regulates the commercial oyster mariculture industry.

Mario Marquez of Palacios is an oyster aquaculture program manager for the Texas Sea Grant College Program at Texas A&M University. He is a member of the Gulf Shellfish Farmer Association, National Shellfisheries Association, World Aquaculture Association, and the Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation; affiliate member of the Texas Aquaculture Association; and an advisory board member on Oyster South. Marquez received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Science in Biology from The University of Texas at Brownsville and is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Science from Florida A&M University.

Bradley “Brad” Lomax of Corpus Christi is president of The Oyster Company, LLC. He is chairman of the Texas Surf Conservancy and a member of the Texas Oyster Mariculture Task Force. Lomax received a Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Mary’s University.
