Governor Abbott Appoints Hicks-Callaway To Council On Cardiovascular Disease And Stroke

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Vanessa Hicks-Callaway to the Council on Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke for a term set to expire on February 1, 2019. The council is charged with developing an effective and resource‐efficient plan to reduce the morbidity, mortality and economic burden of cardiovascular disease and stroke in the State of Texas.

Vanessa Hicks-Callaway of Victoria most recently served as a field representative for a member of congress.  She previously served in the United States Army as a Military Intelligence Officer and as a United States Army Reserve Military police officer. She retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Army after 26 years of honorable service with two combat tours. She is the president of the Kiwanis Club of Victoria and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans. Additionally, she is a former member of the Victoria Chamber of Commerce and the American Business Women’s Association. Hicks-Callaway received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Sam Houston State University and a Master of Science in human resources.
