Governor Abbott Appoints Hewlett To 18th Judicial District Court

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Sydney B. Hewlett as Judge of the 18th Judicial District Court in Johnson and Somervell Counties for a term set to expire on December 31, 2020, or until her successor shall be duly elected and qualified. Hewlett is the first woman to be appointed to the 18th Judicial District Court.

Sydney B. Hewlett of Cleburne is the sole member and partner of Hewlett Law, PLLC. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Johnson County Bar Association and a fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. She is the chairman of the Cleburne Business & Standards Commission, a founder and former chair of the Polly Guthrie Memorial Scholarship and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Terry R. Means (retired), Northern District of Texas, Fort Worth, Division. Hewlett received a Bachelor of Arts in English from The University of Texas at Arlington and a Juris Doctor degree from Baylor Law School, with a concentration in civil litigation and criminal practice.

This appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.
