Governor Abbott Announces Education Hotline For Parents In Houston And Beaumont TX
Governor Greg Abbott today announced the expansion of a telephone hotline by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for parents in the Beaumont and Houston areas to receive information regarding public education for students affected by Hurricane Harvey.
"Texas is working hard to make sure students in communities affected by Harvey are getting back in school as quickly as possible," said Governor Abbott. "This hotline will serve as a helpful tool for victims of the storm to receive the most up to date information for their child's education. I thank Commissioner Morath and the Texas Education Agency for their work to ensure the students of the hardest hit areas of Texas are well taken care of in their time of need."
Parents can get information on public education options for their student by calling (512) 463-9603. The hotline is staffed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day including weekends.
Facilities in several Beaumont and Houston area school districts were heavily damaged by flood waters and may not be in operation for some time. The hotline is designed to assist families with their questions about enrolling in another school district.
