First Lady Cecilia Abbott today addressed the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation’s “Life Without Literacy” Luncheon. The luncheon was held in conjunction with National Literacy Awareness Month in September.

“It is so easy to take for granted the incredible gift we were given when we are taught to read,” said First Lady Abbott. “When a person learns to read, it unlocks the door to opportunity. I’m so appreciative of the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation’s efforts to address the literacy needs of not only children, but also adults in the Houston area. Thank you for all that you are doing to share the gift of literacy and for fulfilling First Lady Barbara Bush’s incredible legacy through this foundation.”
