November is Adoption Month

November 20, 2018

Providing our young Texans with the care, guidance, and support they need to grow up to be successful adults and reach their full potential is our greatest responsibility, and that begins with providing a safe, nurturing environment for them to grow up in.  However, many Texas children face the unfortunate reality of being parentless, a void that is filled by the thousands of Texans who have answered the call to adopt.

November is Adoption Month in Texas, a time to recognize the Texans and Americans who have opened their hearts and their homes to children through adoption, and to raising awareness about adoption.  There are adoption events all over Texas spotlighting the importance of adoption, and you can learn more about becoming an adoptive parent at AdoptChildren.org.

Greg and I know firsthand how adoption has the power to change lives.  Adoption is a blessing not only for the child, but also for the adults welcoming a new child into their family.  Every child deserves to feel valued, secure and loved, and that is achieved every day through adoption.  Choosing to adopt is a lifelong commitment, and those who make that decision to adopt, as well as the numerous other individuals and organizations who have made a difference in the lives of children, embody the compassion, warmth and generosity Texans are so proud of.

This year I ask that all Texans join us in celebrating the families and lives that have been made whole through adoption, while also remembering all of the children who are still waiting for their forever families, and those who are waiting for their chance to become adoptive parents.
