Children’s Tumor Foundation Neurofibromatosis Conference
On Saturday, Greg and I attended the 2016 Children’s Tumor Foundation Neurofibromatosis Conference. This event was geared towards offering a platform for collaborative research within the study of neurofibromatosis (NF) as well as in disciplines such as cancer and neurology.
Neurofibromatosis, the term for three distinct disorders (NF1, NF2, and schwannomatosis), causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body and can lead to blindness, bone deformities, cancer, deafness, disfigurement, learning disabilities and disabling pain. The Children’s Tumor Foundation is the leading nonprofit organization with the purpose of funding research into treatments for NF, which currently has no cure.
Greg addressed the conference attendees regarding his personal experiences overcoming challenges, and he thanked the many “passionate volunteers, strong families, donors, and scientists working together to detect, diagnose, treat, and defeat diseases like NF”. On behalf of Greg and myself, I would once again like to offer a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in the Children’s Tumor Foundation working to learn more about NF and diseases like it, to ultimately find treatments and improve the lives of over 100,000 Americans.
