Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities Announces 2019 Lex Frieden Employment Awards Winners
The Office of the Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities today announced the winners of the 2019 Lex Frieden Employment Awards. Named for disability rights champion Lex Frieden, the awards are bestowed upon Texans who have displayed a commitment to empowering their employees, co-workers, and fellow citizens with disabilities. The winners of the 2019 Lex Frieden Employment Awards will be honored at a ceremony held on October 2nd at the El Paso Zoo.
In his 2019 Texas Disability Employment Awareness Month Proclamation, Governor Greg Abbott noted, “We commit ourselves to promoting disability employment awareness, creating more inclusive workplaces, and cultivating more employment opportunities for Texans with disabilities. As we work toward these goals, our economy will be made ever stronger by the diversity and full participation of workers with disabilities.”

The Governor’s Trophy: Gordon Hartman, The Gordon Hartman Family Foundation (San Antonio)
Large Employer: HEB Corporate Office (San Antonio)
Medium Employer: Chick-fil-A [Store number] (Allen)
Small Employer: Stor and Lok, GRO Investments (Abilene)
Non-Profit Employer: PRIDE Industries (Fort Worth)
Martha Arbuckle Award: El Paso Community Foundation, Every Little Blessing Preschool (El Paso)

The Lex Frieden Employment Awards are part of Texas’ celebration of Disability Employment Awareness Month and the state’s HireAbility Campaign to promote the full employment of Texans with disabilities.
