Governor Abbott Appoints Three To OneStar Foundation

Governor Greg Abbott today appointed Yvonne S. “Bonnie” Brown of Raymondville, Andres G. “Andy” Navarro of Tyler and re-appointed Robert G. “Bob” Wright II of Dallas to the OneStar Foundation for terms set to expire on March 15, 2016 and March 15, 2018, respectively.

Yvonne S. “Bonnie” Brown is co-owner of three small businesses. Previously, she served as a high school teacher for Raymondville and Lyford Independent School Districts for 30 years. Brown is currently president of the Raymondville Chamber of Commerce, secretary of the Harlingen Concert Association Board and member of Communities Against Substance Abuse (CASA) board. She previously served as the Chairman for the Texas Star Oaks Fund, Inc., and board member on the Port Mansfield Chamber of Commerce. Brown has served on several non-profit boards including La Posada Providencia, HOPE board and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. She served for many years on her church administrative board and volunteered in prison ministry. Brown graduated from Sam Houston State University with a degree in Business Administration. She received her Master of Education degree from Pan American University.

Andres G. “Andy” Navarro is Senior System Director and Regional General Counsel of CHRISTUS Health. He is also a member of CHRISTUS Health’s International Operations Team. Previously, he served as the General Counsel for Trinity Mother Frances Health System. Prior to that, Navarro worked at Ramey & Flock as an associate and later named partner of the law firm. He has served as an adjunct professor on health law at the University of Texas at Tyler. Currently, Navarro serves on the Tyler Catholic School Foundation Board. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, American Health Lawyers Association, American Bar Association and the American College of Healthcare Executives. Navarro served as a Captain from the Texas State Guard’s Texas Medical Rangers for two years and assisted Hurricane Katrina evacuees. In recognition of his outstanding professional service and notable contributions to the system of justice, he was elected a “Life Fellow” to the Texas State Bar Foundation. He has received the Smith County Outstanding Young Lawyer award, Tyler Junior College Valuable Young Alumni award and the Tyler Chamber of Commerce W.C. Windsor award. Notably, Navarro received the Vatican’s Benemerenti Medal (“Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice”) from then Pope John Paul II for his generous, life-long service to the Roman Catholic Church and community at large. Navarro graduated from Tyler Junior College with an Associate of Arts degree and from Centenary College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. Following his undergraduate degree, he obtained his law degree from the Dedman School of Law at Southern Methodist University.

Robert G. “Bob” Wright II is founding member and lead corporate and finance attorney of Wright Connatser PLLC.  He is a senior lecturer on Entrepreneurship and Social Entrepreneurship at the University of Texas at Dallas. Previously, he built and managed two computer game companies – ION Storm and Edge of Reality. Prior to that, Wright served as the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of BakBone Software, Inc.. He has served as the general counsel for SoftBrands, Inc and Skywire Software, LLC, which later sold to Oracle, Inc.. Wright began his career at Jenkens & Gilchrist, P.C., specializing in leveraged buyouts, mergers and acquisitions, and securities and regulatory law. He is the founder of Social Venture Partners Dallas (SVPD) that seeks to apply venture capital principles to philanthropy to increase effectiveness in North Texas based non-profit organizations. Wright served on the board and as president of Social Venture Partners International (SVPI). He has served as a member of the Texas Emerging Technology Fund Advisory Committee, member of the Camp Fire USA Board of Trustees and several local non-profit boards. He is co-author of the book The Little Green Book of Venture Philanthropy. Wright graduated from Allegheny College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. Following his undergraduate degree, he obtained a Master of Business Administration degree and law degree from Texas Tech University.
