April is Volunteer Month
April is always one of my favorite times of the year, and that's not just because the bluebonnets are blooming (although, that is one thing I love about spring in Texas!). April is Volunteer Month, and this week, April 16-22, is Volunteer Week.
Philanthropy and service are in Texans' DNA. As First Lady of Texas, I love to tap into that passion we have for Texans helping Texans. Through my Texanthropy initiative, I strive to highlight the amazing work Texans are doing across the Lone Star State and encourage people to get involved in their local communities. I have found few things more rewarding than being involved in the life of my community through volunteering. Volunteering is not just about completing a task or fulfilling a need; it connects us with the people and places around us, strengthening us as fellow Texans. And that service can be as simple as sharing a warm smile, a warm meal, or a warm coat.
During this year's recognition of Volunteer Month and Week, I encourage Texans to find a volunteer opportunity though the VolunteerTX portal. Through this portal, you can search for volunteer opportunities by your interests or location. I believe each one of us is called to service in one way or another, and there's an opportunity for everyone to get involved! Happy Volunteer Month!
