Research Specialist – Austin, Texas

The Office of the Governor is looking for a Research Specialist (Research Specialist IV - V) to work within the Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities.

The salary is $5,888.50 - $7,500.00 a month ($70,662.00 - $90,000.00 a year).

What You’ll Do

Performs highly complex to advanced (senior-level) research work, including detailed technical analysis of disability policy issues.  Work involves coordinating the development, implementation, and monitoring of specialized research projects pertaining to fiscal, administrative, or program functions.

  • Plans the development, implementation, and monitoring of research projects.
  • Collects, compiles, and analyzes research data about people with disabilities.
  • Prepares reports of research findings.
  • Plans and conducts surveys and analyzes results.
  • Develops and reviews policies and procedures used in conducting and administering research activities.
  • Researches, analyzes, and summarizes state and federal disability rights laws and information.
  • Analyzes, synthesizes, tracks, and summarizes proposed changes to state disability-related laws and regulations including during the Texas Legislative Session.
  • Identifies each current long-range plan relating to persons with disabilities in Texas created by a state agency, a committee of a state agency, or a nonprofit organization required by federal law to produce such a plan and links the website address of the reports for each long-range plan, if available, on the Internet website of the Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities.
  • Analyzes and evaluates the state agency’s long-range plans to identify gaps in state laws and services for persons with disabilities.
  • Prepares biennial recommendations in the committee's report to address identified gaps.
  • Prepares disability-related data, information, and resources in user-friendly formats for publications in a professional manner.
  • Disseminates disability-related information to stakeholders.
  • Conducts trainings and presentations on a variety of disability issues.
  • Works closely with staff, constituents, and outside agencies and organizations to provide a coordinated approach to all Committee programs.
  • Provides technical assistance to Committee members to support their participation in Committee meetings.

How You’ll Qualify                                           

Research Specialist IV

  • High school graduate or equivalent; and
  • Four (4) years of professional experience in research and planning work.

Research Specialist V

  • High school graduate or equivalent; and
  • Five (5) years of professional experience in research and planning work.

Note: Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis. Salary and position level will be based on experience and demonstrated skills.

You’re a Great Fit with

  • Master’s degree;
  • Prior experience in a disability-related services program;
  • Advanced technical writing skills, including the use of styles and appropriate research citations; and
  • Demonstrated skill in research, policy analysis, writing, and planning.
