Senior Research Specialist – Austin, Texas

Texas Space Commission is looking for a Senior Research Specialist (Research Specialist V).

Who We Are

The Texas Space Commission works to promote innovation in the field of space operations and commercial aerospace opportunities, including the integration of space, aeronautics, and aviation industries into the Texas economy. We are located primarily within the Texas State Capitol Complex in Austin.

The salary is $8,750.00 - $10,000.00 a month ($105,000.00 - $120,000.00 a year).

What You’ll Do

This is a job that performs highly advanced (senior-level) research work. Work involves conducting specialized research projects related to fiscal, administrative, or program functions of the Commission. Work involves overseeing the development, implementation, and monitoring of specialized research projects for the Commission. Projects may include work pertaining to program and grant applicant evaluation, administrative or policy issues, aerospace industry trends, and aerospace market analyses. Maintaining strict confidentiality and working within tight deadlines are required.

  • Collects, compiles, and analyzes research data.
  • Analyzes data sets using statistical methods and relational databases.
  • Prepares and assists in preparing reports of research findings.
  • Conducts data-gathering interviews.
  • Conducts background research on Commission program grant applicants.
  • Identifies statutory or policy impediments inhibiting growth of the aerospace industry and makes recommendations to Commission leadership on how to alleviate impediments.
  • Writes and edits technical reports and summaries of findings.
  • Prepares research data sets and documents data structure and definitions.
  • Consults on research design, planning, instrumentation, statistical analysis, and reporting.
  • Plans the development, implementation, and monitoring of research projects.
  • Determines the scope and methodologies of research projects and areas to be evaluated.
  • Develops policies and procedures used in conducting and administering research, demonstration, and evaluation activities, in coordination with the Chief Compliance Officer.
  • Develops data quality assurance procedures and conduct quality assurance reviews on research projects.
  • Consults and provides technical advice on research methods and techniques.
  • Prepares and conducts presentations.
  • Formulates and monitors research objectives, programs, and priorities.
  • Analyzes and evaluates the impact of legislation, regulations, and policies affecting current Commission program priorities.

 How You’ll Qualify                                           

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university degree in business or public administration, computer science, statistical analysis, research methodology, library methods, or related field; and
  • Six (6) years of experience in research and planning work.

Note: Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

You’re a Great Fit with

  • MBA or MS degree in public administration, computer science, statistical analysis, research methodology, library methods, or related field.
  • Experience drafting legislation and/or analyzing legislation for redundancies or impediments.
  • Advanced writing skills.
  • Experience in program evaluation and the collection and analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data, including large data sets.
  • Previous experience working at a government agency (local/state/federal).
