Accounts Payable Accountant – Austin, Texas
The Office of the Governor is looking for an Accounts Payable Accountant (Accountant III) to join the Financial Services Division.

The salary is $4,700.00 - $5,500.00 a month ($56,400.00 - $66,000.00 a year).

What You’ll Do
This is a job that performs moderately complex (journey-level) accounting work, which includes preparing and processing payment vouchers in accordance with Comptroller’s Prompt Payment Act (PPA) and OOG’s standard accounting policies and procedures. Work involves verifying all necessary and required supporting documentation is available for all purchase of goods and services. Interacts with staff, governmental agencies, and the public. Develops professional working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Supports all functions performed within the Financial Services Division.
- Prepares financial reports.
- Prepares and audits OOG payment vouchers. Ensures all required and proper documentation is attached and verifiable.
- Reconciles and processes OOG’s monthly procurement card with Citibank.
- Processes disaster grants, all incentive disbursements, and monthly contract service invoices.
- Processes Events Trust Fund, Texas Enterprise Fund, and Governor’s University Research Initiative payment requests.
- Processes invoices for the Public Safety Office and ensures the proper allocation is used to charge federal and state funds.
- Researches and reconciles discrepancies in accounts, bank statements, or appropriation balances. Contacts vendors to resolve outstanding billing issues.
- Updates the internal tracking system for the status of travel and purchase requisitions.
- Helps facilitate records retention functions for the division.
- May assist in providing training to other Accounts Payable staff.
- May review vouchers batches.
- May assist in the peer review of vouchers processed by Accounts Payable Staff.
- May assist in processing and auditing travel vouchers.
How You’ll Qualify
- High school graduate or equivalent; and
- Three (3) years of experience in accounting and financial operations.
Note: Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis. Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) may substitute for two (2) years of experience.
You’re a Great Fit with
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in accounting, finance, or a related field;
- Experience in accounting as a State of Texas employee; and
- Knowledge of Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System Financials (CAPPS Financials) and Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS).
