Information Specialist – Austin, Texas

The Office of the Governor is looking for an Information Specialist (Information Specialist III) to work in the Texas Workforce Investment Council (TWIC).

The salary is $5,666.67 - $6,083.34 a month ($68,000.04 - $73,000.08 a year).

What You’ll Do

This is a job that performs informational and communications work. Work involves the collection of information, organization, and editing of written materials to develop, create, and produce content and materials for final publication, and the development of publication-ready reports and graphics for use by the agency, the general public, and other government agencies. Corrects basic spelling, typographical and grammatical errors (proofreading) and checks accuracy of facts presented and ensures departmental style and formatting consistency.

  • Coordinates the writing, proofreading, and editing of briefs, digital content, technical documents, materials, and reports.
  • Coordinates the preparation and distribution of content and materials for final publication.
  • Develops and delivers periodic electronic correspondence to stakeholders and council members regarding meeting materials, publications, and other updates.
  • Coordinates with staff in the development of formats, graphics, and assists with the layout of publications.
  • Drafts, edits, and posts website content and graphics as required.
  • Coordinates to obtain recommendations in the development of policies and procedures, including the development or assistance in creating social media policies and procedures.
  • Work with management  to develop, prepare, and disseminate policies and procedures for written documents.
  • Coordinates, prepares, and refines materials for briefs and presentations.
  • Ensures that all correspondence accurately reflects the Council’s perspective and position in the workforce system and is well-written, grammatically correct, and accessible information.
  • Performs research as necessary to write and respond to complex technical issues.
  • Verifies that project deliverables consistently comply with Council expectations, agency style, and communication guidelines.
  • Verifies and thoroughly researches source information as necessary to ensure the accuracy of all correspondence prior to release.
  • Establishes and maintains recordkeeping and work papers of research sources, editorial recommendations, and errors.

How You’ll Qualify                                           

  • High school graduate or equivalent; and
  • Three (3) years of experience in journalism, public relations, public information, communications, media relations, or relevant work.

Note: Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in digital technologies, public relations, journalism, communications, advertising, or a relevant field;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
  • Experience in planning; prioritizing; organizing; and managing multiple tasks, deadlines, and projects effectively.
