Travel Accountant – Austin, Texas

The Office of the Governor is looking for a Travel Accountant (Accountant III) to work in the Financial Services Division.

The salary is $4,583.34 - $5,250.00 a month ($55,000.08 - $63,000.00 a year).

What You’ll Do

This is a job that performs moderately complex (journey-level) accounting work, which includes processing travel vouchers, reconciling centrally billed accounts, and updating travel policies and procedures. Interacts with staff, governmental agencies, and the public. Develops professional working relationships with internal and external customers.

  • Supports all accounting functions performed within the Financial Services Division.
  • Assists with processing and auditing travel vouchers in accordance with guidelines set forth in Comptroller’s Textravel and OOG’s travel policies and procedures.
  • Assists with travel-related matters such as Hotel Engine platform and state travel contract vendors. 
  • Reviews travel requisitions for accuracy and compliance with OOG policies and procedures and state and federal statutes.
  • Reconciles and processes travel accounts for the OOG.
  • Reviews and updates approved OOG travel policies and procedures.
  • Provides travel training to all OOG staff and board members.
  • Maintains systems and controls necessary to provide accurate accounts of expenditures and budget balances for agency travel programs.
  • Assists in the collection, organization, analysis and/or preparation of materials in response for program information and reports.
  • Provides customer service to internal and external users.
  • Provides administrative support to the Director of Financial Services when needed.
  • May conduct training for all new employees on the Agency’s Travel Program.

How You’ll Qualify                                           

  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible accounting experience.

Note: Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis. Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) will substitute for two (2) years of experience.

You’re a Great Fit with

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Experience as a State of Texas employee in accounting, with a focus on travel matters.
  • Knowledge of Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System Financials (CAPPS Financials) and Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS).
