Governor Abbott Names Chair And Appoints Seven To Upper Colorado River Authority Board Of Directors

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Wade “Tanner” Mahan and Kathryn Mews and reappointed Hugh “Che” Stone, III to the Upper Colorado River Authority Board of Directors for terms set to expire on February 1, 2023. In addition, he appointed Erica Hall and reappointed Eva Horton and Ronny Alexander for terms set to expire on February 1, 2021, and reappointed William “Bill” Hood for a term set to expire on February 1, 2019. The Governor named Horton chair of the board.

Wade “Tanner” Mahan of Menard is retired as vice president of operations for Compressor System Incorporated in Midland and as owner of Menard Lumber Company. He is treasurer of the Presidio de Saba Restoration Corporation Board of Directors and the Industrial Development Corporation, member and past president of Menard Businessmen’s Association, member of Bevans State Bank in Menard, Menard County Game, and Livestock Protection Association, and trustee of First United Methodist Church. Previously, he was a member of the Permian Basin Oil Show Board of Directors and the Odessa Chuck Wagon Gang. Mahan received a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from Texas Tech University and a Bachelor of Science in range animal science from Sul Ross State University. He served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and was awarded the Purple Heart for his service in Viet Nam.

Kathryn Mews of Menard is owner and operator of her family ranching business. She is a member of Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association, and Menard County Wildlife Management Association. In addition, she is the secretary and past historian of Hill Country Sheep and Goat Organization, treasurer of the Library Club of Menard, member of the Menard County 4-H Youth Advisory Board, secretary of Grace Lutheran Church, and a preschool volunteer at Menard ISD. Mews received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in nuclear engineering from Texas A&M University.

Hugh “Che” Stone, III of San Angelo is a self-employed rancher in Tom Green and Coke counties. He is a member of the Sheep & Goat Raisers Association, board member of the Tom Green County Texas Soil and Water Conservation District, and a volunteer for the Tom Green County Adult Literacy Council. Stone graduated from Texas Military Institute and is a graduate of the Texas Christian University Ranch Management Program.

Erica Hall of Abilene is an attorney and owner of Law Office of Erica E. Hall, PLLC. She is a member of the Texas Bar Foundation and State Bar of Texas, including the Family Law Section, Child Protection Section, and the District 14 Grievance Committee. In addition, she is a member of the National Center for Children’s Literature Board of Directors and Beyond the Bench-Taylor County and a former board member of the Alliance for Women and Children. She also provides legal training for CASA of the Big Country. Hall received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Texas A&M University and a Juris Doctor degree from Texas Tech University School of Law.

Eva Horton of San Angelo is retired from West Texas Rehabilitation Center of San Angelo, where she was director of donor relations. She is a member and past president of the Junior League of San Angelo, member and past chairman of the Fairmount Cemetery Board of Directors, and is on the vestry at Emmanuel Episcopal Church. She is a former member of the Fort Concho Museum Board of Directors and the San Angelo Schools Foundation Board and a former instructor and founding board member of the Sonrisas Therapeutic Riding program. Horton attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri before receiving a Bachelor of Arts in history and English from Angelo State University.

Ronny Alexander of Paint Rock is a farmer and rancher. He serves as a volunteer fireman with the Lake Ivie Volunteer Fire Department and is a member of the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. He is past chairman of the Concho County Appraisal Review Board and past vice chairman of the Agricultural Appraisal Advisory Committee. Alexander received a Bachelor of Science in education from Angelo State University.

William “Bill” Hood of Robert Lee is retired superintendent of the Robert Lee Independent School District. He is the membership chairman of the Coke County Chapter of Texas Retired Teachers Association and a member of the Region 15 Education Service Center, Robert Lee Housing Authority, and theCentral West Texas Baptist Association. He has also served as minister of Pecan Baptist Church since 2013. Hood received a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology from Angelo State University, a Master of Education from Texas A&M University, and a professional certification in Administration for Superintendents from Tarleton State University.
