Governor Abbott Designates Soward To Texas Violent Gang Task Force

Governor Greg Abbott has designated David Soward to the Texas Violent Gang Task Force for a term at the pleasure of the Governor. The task force forms strategic partnerships among local, state, and federal criminal justice, juvenile justice, and correctional agencies to better enable those agencies to take a proactive stance towards tracking gang activity and the growth and spread of gangs statewide.

David Soward of Jourdanton is Atascosa County Sheriff with over 45 years of experience in law enforcement. He has been the Sheriff for the past seven years. He is past president and current member of the Atascosa County Law Enforcement Officer Association and former law enforcement coordinator for the Atascosa County Crime Stoppers, Inc. He is a member of the National Sheriff’s Association, Sheriff’s Association of Texas, and the Texas Municipal Police Association. He previously volunteered as past president of both the Jourdanton Athletic Booster Club and the Jourdanton Little League and is a current member of the Pleasanton Lion’s Club. Soward graduated from the Texas Engineering Extension Service Law Enforcement Academy and holds a Master Peace Officer license and a Master Jailer's license from the State of Texas.
