Guest Post: October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The following is from Commissioner Jinous Rouhani, Governor's Commission for Women
It's the time of year again when we focus on raising awareness for breast cancer. As a working single mom, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to make your own health a priority. It's the item on the agenda that often keeps getting put on the back burner. But, as the CEO of Austin's leading women's healthcare practice, I also know what a difference taking care of yourself can make.
We are seeing so many patients in our office in their 30’s, women you would think are too young to have cancer, and the technology we are using is saving their lives. Statistics show that early detection is the key to survival. Even a year’s delay is critical time you can't afford to miss. And with advancements in technology, you can get a state of the art 3D Mammography at your doctor's office and have an exam in as little as 15 minutes.
There are many ways you can participate in breast cancer awareness month in addition to scheduling a long overdue mammogram. There are great organizations that provide ways to donate time and/or money to the cause, from helping to provide mammograms to women in need, to raising money for breast cancer research.
I hope this inspires you to participate in breast cancer awareness month in your own way.
Best regards,
Jinous Rouhani, MBA, CMPE
