Governor Abbott Statement On San Antonio Human Trafficking Deaths

July 23, 2017 | Austin, Texas | Press Release

Governor Greg Abbott released the following statement after at least 9 people died in an apparent human trafficking operation in San Antonio, TX.

“The loss of these lives is a heartbreaking tragedy,” said Governor Abbott. “Human trafficking is an epidemic that Texas is working to eradicate. To that end, Texas will continue to provide protection for the victims who have been robbed of their most basic rights, and bring down the full weight of the law for the perpetrators of this despicable crime.”

In May 2017, Governor Abbott signed a law, Senate Bill 128, which provides information to the trucking industry about how to recognize and report signs of human trafficking.
