Governor Abbott Bets On Astros In Friendly Wager With California Governor Jerry Brown

October 24, 2017 | Austin, Texas | Press Release

Governor Greg Abbott today made a friendly wager with California Governor Jerry Brown on the outcome of the 2017 World Series between the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers, which begins tonight.

For his wager, Governor Abbott is offering a six-pack of Houston-brewed beer and Texas BBQ. Win or lose, the Governor will also be making a donation to the recovery and relief efforts following the devastating wildfires in Northern California.

“Texas and California are recovering from some of the worst natural disasters our states have ever encountered,” said Governor Abbott. “As we work to overcome these challenges, our two states are united by America’s pastime as we cheer on our home teams in the World Series. Go Astros!”

Governor Brown met Governor Abbott’s offer with a selection of wine from wineries in Sonoma, Napa and Mendocino regions impacted by recent wildfires.

“While we don’t expect to have to send any vino to Texas, we hope travelers from all over the world – yes, even the Lone Star State – will continue to visit California.” said Governor Brown.
