Pursuant to Article IV, Section 14, of the Texas Constitution, I, Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas, do hereby disapprove of and veto House Bill No. 973 as passed by the Eighty-Fourth Texas Legislature, Regular Session, because of the following objections:

Governor Greg Abbott today named Donna Bahorich Chair of the Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) for a term to expire February 1, 2017.
Governor Abbott Signs Resolution Posthumously Awarding Chris Kyle The Texas Legislative Medal Of Hon
Governor Greg Abbott today signed House Concurrent Resolution 85 (Wray, R-Waxahachie; Birdwell, R-Granbury) to posthumously award the Texas Legislative Medal of Honor to Chief Petty Officer Chris Kyle, a native Texan and Navy SEAL who served four tours in Iraq and is recognized as the most lethal sniper in United States military history.
Governor Abbott Again Adds Counties To Disaster Declaration
Governor Greg Abbott, issued Emergency Disaster Proclamations on May 11, May 15, May 25, May 26, May 29 and June 3, 2015, certifying that the severe weather, tornado and flooding event that began on May 4, 2015, has caused a disaster in many Texas counties. Disaster conditions persist in many parts of the state.
Governor Abbott Signs Legislation Requiring Local Government Financial Disclosure
Governor Greg Abbott today signed House Bill 1378 (Flynn, R-Canton; Bettencourt, R-Houston), one of his Bicentennial Blueprint recommendations, which will require all local taxing entities to post their financial statements online or through the Texas Comptroller’s website.
