Governor Abbott has proclaimed May 6-12, 2018 as Texas Travel and Tourism Week, a time to celebrate the many ways traveling in and around Texas is awesome, as well as the impact travel has as one of our state’s top economic drivers.
Travel spending in Texas ranks among the highest in the nation, with an estimated $74.7 billion in travel spending across our great state in 2017. Without this revenue, each Texas household would pay an additional $690 in state and local taxes to make up for the loss of revenue. When it comes to employing Texans, the travel and tourism industry directly supports nearly 678,000 Texas jobs. This is an increase of 2.1 percent over the previous year, representing the seventh consecutive year of growth. Travel tourism supports jobs in many sectors of the economy including leisure and hospitality, transportation, retail trade, services, finance, real estate, construction and others.
The travel and tourism industry does an amazing job of showcasing the beauty of the Lone Star State, so it’s no wonder that the Texas serves as a must-visit destination.
