State of the State

February 19, 2015

We have so much to thank our military members and veterans for – but as my husband, Governor Greg Abbott, said Tuesday in his State of the State address, saying thank you is not enough.

Greg outlined several proposals during his State of the State that will make positive impacts in the lives of our veterans once they return to civilian life. His proposals will strengthen our state’s economy by expanding and improving business and job opportunities for veterans. Greg also wants to provide access to mental health screenings for veterans, and last month he expressed his support for a new VA hospital in the Valley. We owe it to our veterans to make sure they have the resources they need to live strong, healthy lives, considering all they have done for us.

I was honored to meet a very special veteran – Mr. Richard Overton – at the State of the State on Tuesday. Mr. Overton is our nation’s oldest World War II veteran. He lives right here in Austin and is 108 years young. Greg’s proposals will go a long way in expressing our thanks to Mr. Overton and to all of our veterans, and I hope you will support him.
