Recap of the 2016 Texas Nonprofit Summit Series
This summer I had the pleasure of participating in the 2016 Texas Nonprofit Summit Series. The series consisted of three summits in three different parts of Texas - El Paso, the Rio Grande Valley, and Lubbock – and was co-hosted by the OneStar Foundation and local partners.
The summits brought together nonprofit organizations, business and community leaders, volunteers, and others, giving Texans from all across the state the opportunity to come together to learn how we can help make a difference through service and volunteering. I attended all three summits and had the opportunity to speak to summit attendees about my Texanthropy initiative and the importance of volunteerism and service to others. Through Texanthropy, I hope to help connect Texans with opportunities to volunteer and give back in their own communities or across the state, and to celebrate Texans’ giving spirit year-round. The summits were a wonderful opportunity for me to learn about the issues affecting each region of the state and the good work that is going on to address the issues.
Thank you to the OneStar Foundation and local partners for organizing such wonderful events, and thank you to all who attended. I look forward to continuing to work with all Texans to bring together the two things that I am most passionate about — Texas and philanthropy – and to inspire more Texans to answer the call to service.
