Information on Debris Removal and Home Cleanup

June 14, 2016

Many across Texas are dealing with the aftermath of the devastating floods that have ravaged many parts of our state over the last several weeks. I wanted to pass along information to Texas residents in need of debris removal and home cleanup assistance as a result of this severe weather and flooding.

The Information Technology Disaster Resource Center and VisionLink have teamed up to provide a hotline that Texans can call to get information on free assistance from vetted disaster relief organizations. The hotline number is 1-800-451-1954, and the hotline will connect Texans in need due to the recent flooding with Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster members that can assist with debris removal, mucking (removal of mud, muck, silt, and other typically semi-solid state material from a home), and gutting (tearing out and removal of construction related materials from a home). Due to overwhelming demand, Texans are asked to be patient while teams receive and organize their response to help, and service is not guaranteed. This hotline is only for assistance with debris removal and home cleanup, but for other disaster-related needs (food, clothing, shelter, etc.), Texans should call 2-1-1.

If you feel called to help your fellow Texans in their time of need, volunteers - particularly individuals who are bilingual - are needed to help staff the hotline. To learn more about volunteer opportunities, visit http://onestarfoundation.org/news/crisis-cleanup-hotline-volunteers/.
