Governor Abbott Appoints Three To Texas Diabetes Council
Governor Greg Abbott appointed Felicia Fruia-Edge and Ardis Reed to the Texas Diabetes Council for terms set to expire on February 1, 2023. Additionally, the Governor reappointed John Griffin for a term set to expire on February 1, 2019. The council addresses issues affecting people with diabetes in Texas, and advises the Texas Legislature on legislation that is needed to develop and maintain a statewide system of quality education services to all people with diabetes and health professionals who offer diabetes treatment and education.
Felicia Fruia-Edge of Rancho Viejo is the vice president of Luke Fruia Motors. She is the cofounder of Hope 4 Kids Living with Diabetes, and serves as a board member on Girls on the Run and the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation. She is a member of the Valley Auto Dealers Association and the Texas Auto Dealers Association. Fruia-Edge received a Bachelor of Science in advertising from The University of Texas at Austin.
Ardis Reed of Hideaway is a certified diabetes educator and registered dietitian with TMF Health Quality Institute. She is a member of the American Association of Diabetes Educators, South Texas Diabetes Educators Untied, and the Texas Diabetes Council Outcomes Subcommittee. Reed received a Bachelor of Science in health education from Southern Illinois University, a Master of Public Health in nutrition from Loma Linda University, and a post graduate certificate in health information management from Texas State University.
John Griffin of Victoria is the managing partner of Marek, Griffin, & Knaupp law firm. He previously served as chair of the Board of the American Diabetes Association, and currently serves as chair of the association's Legislative and Regulatory Subcommittee. He is a board member of the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation. Professionally, he is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Texas, Texas Center for Legal Ethics and Professionalism, United State Supreme Court, Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. Griffin received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Austin College and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Missouri.
