Governor Abbott Appoints Nadir-Mason And Coleman To State Board For Educator Certification
Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Shareefah Nadir-Mason and reappointed Tommy Coleman to the State Board for Educator Certification for terms set to expire on February 1, 2025. The board develops certification and continuing education requirements and standards of conduct for public school teachers.
Shareefah Nadir-Mason of Dallas is a distinguished teacher at Dallas ISD. She is a senior policy fellow with Teach Plus and a member of the American Federation of Teachers. Nadir-Mason received a Bachelor of Arts in government from Nicholls State University and a Master of Arts in organizational management from the University of Phoenix-Houston.
Tommy L. Coleman of Livingston is an assistant district attorney for the Polk County Criminal District Attorney’s Office. He is a former non-commissioned officer in the United States Army Reserve and a National Defense Service Medal recipient. He is a board member of the Polk County Historical Commission and a member of the Rotary Club of Livingston, Texas District and County Attorneys Association, and the State Bar of Texas. Coleman received a Bachelor of Science in political science from Texas Wesleyan University and a Juris Doctor degree from South Texas College of Law in Houston.
These appointments are subject to Senate confirmation.
